Science in the Community

Geek out your week with exciting programs exploring hot science and technology topics. All events are free to attend. Tasty Science is the only Science in the Community Event requiring pre-registration and registration will open on Wednesday, April 13th.

Monday, May 2

Crimebusters

Join local law enforcement, forensic scientists, medical examiners, and more
to unravel the evidence, follow the clues, and solve the mysteries of crime fighting. Las Vegas Metropolitan Police, Crime Lab, and Clark County Coroner’s office will share tricks and techniques of DNA extraction, fingerprinting, bone identification, and crime scene reconstruction through hands- on activities for the whole family.

Tuesday, May 3

Tasty Science   full

Join Hard Rock Hotel’s Executive Chef to discover the science behind the foods you prepare and eat. Why are foods spicy? What’s the super-fast freezing thing on the food shows? Learn about how technology is changing what and how we eat and quite possibly learn a trick or two to take home to your own kitchen!

May Science Be With You

Desert Research Institute & The National Atomic Testing Museum will open their doors to science exploration and Las Vegas’s official Star Wars Celebration.

DRI Lab Tours, Hands-On Activities for all ages, Scientist Presentations, Free Museum Admission, Special appearances, photo ops with 501 Legions’ Neon City Garrison Star Wars Characters, and Food Trucks.

Thursday, May 5

Dinosaurs of the Past, the Present and the Future

Join renowned paleontologist and consultant for the blockbuster movie franchise, Jurassic Park, Dr. Jack Horner for an evening in the prehistoric past. Dinosaurs may be extinct but what does their future hold? This family- friendly presentation will explore the past, present and future of these exciting creatures.

Cows, Goats, and Horses, Oh My!

Rediscover historic Floyd Lamb Park at
Tule Springs and get up-close and personal with the critters that live there. Visit barnyard animals, take a guided nature walk, and learn about the science of horses in the Old Dairy Barn.
